To the moon

In light of the deep divisions displayed in the U.S. presidential election, I think many people will relate to the first line of Modest Mouse’s “3rd Planet.”
Everything that keeps me together is falling apart.
This is certainly how it feels sometimes.
The first song on “The Moon & Antarctica” is one of my Modest Mouse favorites. I often try to casually insert the song’s lyrics in day-to-day life.
The universe is shaped exactly like the earth.
If you go straight long enough you’ll end up where you were.
The lyrics of “3rd Planet” along with those on the rest of the album capture the human condition in a way only Modest Mouse can bring to life.
The album progress flawlessly with “Gravity Rides Everything,” a softer ride through the journey that is this album. “Tiny Cities Made of Ashes” and “A Different City” are classic Modest Mouse songs, instrument-heavy and powerful.
The record is musically fascinating.
I paired the album with a layered outfit for a more complex look. The ensemble includes a lace bralette, T-shirt dress, belt and combat boots.
Modest Mouse has a niche for combining string instruments, various vocal techniques and ever-changing tempos. They delve into unexplored musical territory while revealing the jagged edges of the human existence.
I’m particularly drawn to “The Cold Part.” The string instruments combined with melancholy chants lead your mind into the desolate desert of cold.
If you tie each song onto a string, it will take you from the moon to Antarctica. But, you should know in advance, you might not come back.
“The Moon & Antarctica” will haunt in you in all the right ways.
