5 songs that will define your summer

June 12, 2017

Everyone has that song that easily reminds them of summer. It flashes you back to the days of cut-off jeans, late nights with friends, roasting marshmallows at a bonfire, attempting to eat a popsicle while riding your bike, or was that last one just me? Perhaps, but you know what I mean. While I can’t think of one song that defines summer to me, I can think of at least five.

“Vacation” by The Go Go’s

Let it be known that The Go Go’s “Vacation” is the ultimate summer song. It may be my humble opinion, but nothing is better than a group of girls harmonizing about getting away while jet skiing. And, a vacation is all we ever want. Right? I thought so.

“Electric Avenue” by Eddy Grant

This funky Reggae techno song reminds me of when you’re getting ready for a night on the town in mid-summer. It puts me in the party mood instantly, which may also add a few extra minutes to get ready from all the impromptu dancing.

“Aquaman” by Walk The Moon

Walk The Moon has easily become one of my favorite bands because of its retro backbeat and '80s-inspired sound. “Aquaman” just oozes summer romance. It takes me back to how it felt when you took the plunge and talked to your crush or those first-date jitters.

“Cool For the Summer” by Demi Lovato

Keeping with the “summer romance” theme, this pop/dance number is so catchy. I might catch some flack for this because Lovato is a pop artist, but she has a phenomenal voice and the right attitude to have this much sex appeal in a song.

“What’s My Age Again?” by Blink 182

If there was a soundtrack of a teenage rebellious summer, this song would be on there. It’s the quintessential punk party song that gets your head nodding.

I could have easily added another five or 10 to the list, as this is my favorite time of year to listen to some tunes while relaxing poolside. So whatever your summer vibe, just remember to have fun and jam.
